چکیده
Abstract Introduction Intravenous drug use (IVDU) associated infective endocarditis (IE) is a clinically challenging case. Not only can the natural history of IE in IVDU population be significantly different, making detection diagnostic dilemma, additional social factors with this drastically change management, including suitability for surgery or long-term intravenous access antibiotics Furthermore, rates are increasing globally, leading to incidence IE. Purpose With lack clear mangement guidelines IE, our study assesses differences presentation, management and prognosis between non-IVDU help guide future care. Methods This an observational cohort on prospectively collected database 350 patients treated at centre 1999 2015. Patients were followed-up until death January 2021. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Continuous variables compared using unpaired t-test. Categorical Chi-square test when sample size >5 Fisher's exact ≤5. Long-term survival data analysed Kaplan-Meier curves. Results younger, more likely have concurrent infections other substance use, while older higher level overall comorbidity. become reinfected (p-value=0.034) but had better (p<0.001). Survival estimates 15-years 64.98% (95% CI: 50.94–75.92%) 26.67% 19.76–34.05%) (p-value<0.0001). Conclusion Despite having levels reinfection, outcomes patients. Therefore, should not blanket restrictions they offered unless individual has contraindications particular therapy. FUNDunding Acknowledgement Type funding sources: None.

The medical records of all patients discharged with the diagnosis of "infective endocarditis", "subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE)," "acute bacterial endocarditis (ABE)," and "bacterial endocarditis" from March 1977, to February 1987, were reviewed. 84 cases fulfilled the criteria of endocarditis. Sixty-one percent were male and the mean age was 25.7 years. 57% were culture-negative and ...

متن کاملInfective endocarditis in intravenous drug users, evaluation of clinical and para-clinical presentation
Introduction: 60 percent of hospitalization causes of intravenous drug users are infection, of which 5 to 15 percent of them due to endocorditis. Infective endocorditis is a common infection among intravenous drug users and can cause high mortality and morbidity. This study was conducted to evaluate clinical and para-clinical presentations of drug users. Methods: In a descriptive study we...

Background: Sub-acute bacterial endocarditis (SBE) rarely presents with features of a small vessel vasculitis. Patients with SBE can also develop multiple serological abnormalities including ANCA. In this report, we present a case of infective endocarditis mimicked ANCA associated glomerulonephritis.Case presentation: A 57-year old male with a clinical picture of rapidly progressive renal failu...
متن کاملAcute infective endocarditis caused by Delftia acidovorans, a rare pathogen complicating intravenous drug use.
Gram-negative bacilli causing infective endocarditis (IE) is rare, even in intravenous drug users. This case report underscores several clinically important aspects of Delftia acidovorans IE: the organism's ability to cause rapid destruction of normal native valves and to cause embolic occlusion of large arteries and its resistance to all aminoglycosides.
